It’s Trans Awareness Week, a time to celebrate trans and gender non-conforming people and raise awareness of issues facing the community.

Over the past year and a half, the Domestic Abuse Court Advocacy (DACA) Accreditation project has been undertaking the LGBT Youth Scotland charter programme. We chose to dedicate time to this to learn about the unique needs of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people experiencing domestic abuse and to ensure that we are considering the needs of LGBTQ+ clients in the project.

I’m thrilled to announce that after a year and a half of work, training and research, the DACA Accreditation project has been awarded the Foundations charter award. We are grateful for the support offered by Janice Stevenson, and have really appreciated the opportunity to continue to develop the DACA project into one which recognises how important it is that we consider how our intersecting identities impact on the way we engage with DACA services.

Later this week we will launch a report we developed during our charter journey about ways in which Domestic Abuse Court Advocacy services can adapt their services to ensure that lesbian, gay, bi and trans clients needs for court advocacy are met.
